Chapter three

CHARPTER THREE
THE NORTH TRIP

Harry couldn’t see London now. They must be somewhere in the north of London. The things down were in a dim green. Sunlight illuminated on Harry’s face. He could hardly open his eyes. All the things that he could see were three broomsticks in front of him. He didn’t know where they were going. He wondered if they could stop and have a rest. He was hungry and thirsty. In addition, the most important thing is – He was freezing. He could hardly move his hand to prop his glasses. He flew forward and tried to let them know.
A black cloak appeared in front of Harry. Victor Krum Undisillusion himself in a whirl. He shocked Harry. He heard Ron’s laugh behind him. He turned back and saw him. His jeering sight made Harry felt he wanted to hit him. Harry flew forward to ask Krum what to do now. He struggled and said nothing.
‘We are hungry and freezing. Can we have a rest?’ asked Hermione hopefully.
‘But ve can’t take a rest, Hermy-own-ninny.’ said Krum. Ron laughed out when he heard the name Hermy-own-ninny. Hermione ignored him. Harry decided to help her.
‘How about there?’ asked Harry for Hermione, pointing at a large cloud.
‘vhere?’ asked Krum politely. He didn’t understand what Harry meant. Just when Harry wanted to answered, another voice came behind Harry.
‘You can’t even do a freezing charm?’ asked Ron, jeering. Krum looked at him from head to toe, checking how much he wore.
‘Are you crazy? ve are already freezing and you vant us to sit on ice?’ asked Krum incredibly. Ron looked embarrassed and tipped Harry a wink for help. Harry took a bottle out of his bag and threw it to Krum.
‘Vhat is this?’ asked Krum.
‘It is for making ices warm without melting them.’ answered Harry. ‘But you still need to freeze them first.’ Krum waved his wand a circle and froze the cloud. It started to fall down. Ron laughed at him loudly. Hermione waved her wand promptly at once. The cloud floated in the air and flew close to them. Harry poured the potion on it and they finally had a place to rest.

Days and days went by. Their destination was getting closer and closer, but Ron’s anger was growing stronger and stronger. Inside of a cloud, two people were trying to clam Ron down. Hermione was saying Krum might be the only person they knew who could help them find Karkaroff. However, Ron was still recalcitrant about it.
‘Ron, the problem is you. I didn’t do anything while you and lav-’
‘You did. You even attacked me.’ said Ron angrily. ‘I didn’t do anything, Hermione.’
‘I hope you won’t.’ said Hermione. ‘But we really need to be together, not arguing.’
‘I won’t, but I would-’
Suddenly, Krum walked into their cloud. Ron stopped talking immediately. Hermione and Harry all smiled. Only Ron looked at Krum angrily as though he was a death eater. Harry saw the doubting in Krum’s eyes, so signified him to walk out with him. He winked at Hermione and made sure that Ron didn’t see him,
‘Vhat did I do?’ asked Krum, still looking confused. ‘Vhy is he looking at me like-’
‘I don’t know if I shall tell you or not.’ said Harry. He took out hid Firebolt and mounted on it. Krum didn’t say anything. He just followed Harry to fly, but he is still staring at Harry. Harry knew he really wanted an answer.
‘Don’t look at me like that, I didn’t do anything.’ said Harry, wondering how well can his idea work. ‘I just want to have a race with you before our trip today.’
‘But how about your friend? I knew he likes flying too. He even asked for an autograph of me!’ said Krum. ‘Vhy is he- Hang on, He is with Hermy-own-ninny!’ He rushed back to the cloud immediately. Ron was sitting outside of it. Harry smiled, but quickly turned his head back. He didn’t want Ron and Krum to see him.
‘Vhy don’t you come and fly vth us? It is not a cold today.’ asked Krum. ‘By the vay, vhere is Hermy-own-ninny?’
‘My name is Hermione!’ said a voice reproachfully behind them. Hermione walked out of their cloud. She was reading a route map. Krum looked at her eyes suspiciously. ‘Krum, we must discuss about our direction. We’ve only got an hour distance to the ocean!’
‘Vell, a little more east.’ said Krum, but no one understood him.
‘We are going to fly over the sea?’ asked Ron with a revenge looking face. ‘Why can’t we fly over the land?’
‘Ve are not going to do any of these.’ answered Krum simply. ‘Ron, if you don’t come and play with us, we will just-’
‘Fine, I’ll go.’ interrupted Ron and walked out with them, but was still muttering. ‘How can we not fly over the sea and the land? Out of the earth?’
As the time Harry and Krum were checking the equipments. Ron was flying around and around on top of them, and Hermione was reading the Advanced Transfiguration. Her wand was waved up and down in a strange orbit, which made Harry, and Ron looked at her worriedly. Therefore, Harry took out the snitch.
‘We don’t need that, silly boys. We just need to have fun. Follow me!’ said Ron happily, and accelerated up into the sunlight. Harry and Krum smiled at each other and mounted on their broomstick, speeded up into the sky in Ron’s laughter. ‘Hermione, its not reading time. Its time to practice! Come and catch me!’

The smell of salty air occupied Harry’s sense. Harry remembered the smell. The smell of foggy, salty air. Harry had only smelt the smell once, but it brought him one of the worst memories he had had. Harry did not want to think about it. He flew lower to find out where they are. The border of land and sea was seen clearly in his eyes. He braked and stared at Krum suspiciously. He saw Ron and Hermione brake too. Only Krum was still flying forward to the sea. Harry promptly chased up to him and signified him to stop. Krum slide a circle and turned back to them.
‘Vhat is going on, Harry?’ asked Krum. ‘Aren’t we going to find Karkaroff? If yes, please follow me.’
‘That’s the sea!’ shouted Ron grumblingly. ‘We are not you! We can’t fly that far without stopping!’
‘Ve have got only thirty minutes distance to Karkaroff’s place!’ said Krum, staring at Ron. ‘That’s not far! Just go!’ He ignored Ron’s shouting and flew away. Hermione followed him, left Ron and Harry behind them. Harry tried to make himself believe Krum. However, he couldn’t do that in Ron’s muttering.
‘Ron! Can you keep quite? The only thing that can help us is find Karkaroff. We must believe Krum. Just like Hermi- I mean what you and I did three years ago.’ said Harry, carefully looking at Ron’s face, wishing he didn’t hear him.
‘Never! I will never believe him!’
‘So you will let Hermione stay with him?’ said Harry finally used his trump card.
‘All right!’ said Ron, looking like that he have no alternative. ‘If he lied to us. I’ll kill him.’
‘I’ll help you on that.’ said Harry, beaming. His plan finally worked. He felt entirely free from worry. He rose up to the highest speed into the breeze in front of them. Ron sighed and followed him.

Harry and Ron flew over a bright green island with snows on the mountain. It looked just like a farmland with white spikes. Rivers cut the land in four parts. It looked like paintings, perfect scenery that can only be seen in paintings. Harry looked attentively at it until a cloud covered it. Ron didn’t even seem to see it. He gazed intently at the two black dots in front of them.-Hermione and Krum were talking fervently. Ron’s mouth was wide open. He flew to them in an unbelievable speed with a scary sight. His murderous look shocked Harry. Harry chased up to him immediately, but he stopped unexpectedly. Harry knew perfectly why. Krum drew out his wand, pointed at the water surface. Than he threw a white ball down.
‘Refromilus!’ shouted Krum. The ball started whirling in a high speed that Harry could only see a circle there. Suddenly, the ball fell into the ocean and out came a tunnel-like whirlpool. ‘What is it?’ asked Ron surprisingly, as Harry and Hermione gasped in amazement at it. Krum smiled, but said nothing to them. He just flew into the whirlpool. Harry followed him, though misgivings filled his deeply heart.
